Your Closet
It may be hard but we need to talk about closet organization. This leaves most people mentally and spiritually exhausted but it doesn’t have to. Don’t hate your closet.
Any time a client says, “I didn’t even know I had that top,” or “It’s in there somewhere,” or “I have all these clothes but I wear the same things over and over,” I get so excited for what’s about to happen. They are going to see their closet, their clothes and their sense of style (yes, you have one) in a whole new way.
Let’s get started and let’s keep it simple:
Step 1: Put like creatures together. Put your shirts together in one area of your closet. Do the same with pants, dresses, jackets, sweaters, and skirts. You may get a little tired so take a break if you need to. Get some music going, pour some coffee or a glass of wine; add a fun element just don’t get distracted.
Step 2: All those empty hangers, get them out of your closet. (I will go Joan Crawford over wire hangers.) Save any good hangers, recycle the wire and plastic hangers. I’m a fan of the larger plastic colored hangers but we will talk about hangers later.
Step 3: Within each section, line up you tops, pants, dresses, etc. by color. The order of each color doesn’t really matter but light to dark works best. Patterns without any real color story can have their own category at the end of each section.
You have just graduated from Basic Closet 101. Congratulations!
How funny, this is exactly how I spent 2# days of my recent Staycation, organising my various Wardrobes/Closets, into exactly the order you have suggested.
It was quite organised before, but even better now š
Hey, Ruth – Iām checking in on you to see how the closet is looking? š
You would be so proud of my closet!!
