Shoes

Shoes never lie to you. The day after Thanksgiving, they still fit. A month into your New Year’s resolution, they still fit. They might make your feet hurt, but they won’t betray you.

If you have any shoes in your closet that wear just “because they’re comfortable ” throw them out. A sad shoe will make you sad. I’m not telling you to run out and buy 4″ stilettos. There are thousands of super cute shoes that are really comfortable and won’t send you to a podiatrist. Faded flip flops, worn leather, scuffed heels, discolored fabric, worn out soles, anything that makes your feet hurt at the end of the day – get rid of them.

Step 7: Shoes. There is nothing wrong with a large collection of flip flops and sandals until they are all over the closet floor. Trying to find a matched set is now a new game show and you’re the host. Get a laundry basket or a cute tub and toss them all in there. Home building stores have all kinds of inexpensive light weight shelving for you to stack your other shoes. Placing each pair side by side and heel to toe will save space. Off season shoes should be under your bed or on the top shelf. Keep like colors together. You can get shoe storage that hangs over your door or in your closet but be sure you have the space to this. I am happy to make specific recommendations – just leave a comment.

You’re almost done! You may look around and think, “There’s nothing left to organize. Everything is off the floor, it all has a place, even the clothes in the hamper will have a place after their washed.” That’s great but a few of use have some accessories – purses, scarves, jewelry, workout wear, and undergarments. These are the finishing touches.
