Making New Friends
Stylist often advise, when you go shopping and find something that goes with what you’re wearing, chances are it will go with other items in your closet as well. The idea being that you tend to gravitate towards the same things so the odds are pretty good.
I love when I purchase an item, take it home, open my closet and find something that pairs perfectly with my new item. That’s what happened with these earrings. I was traveling in Fredericksburg, Texas and found these handmade earrings. Off the top of my head I didn’t have anything that they would go with but that wasn’t about to stop me from getting them. I came home, took them out of the bag and viola they matched this sweater. I was thrilled! No one would believe I didn’t buy them together from the same store, but they were purchased years (and several states) apart.
This is one of the reasons I recommend you not marry your clothes. It limits how you see them and how versatile they can be. Trust your instincts. When you add a new piece to your closet, put it through a speed dating session. Walk it passed the items in your closet and see if something clicks. It doesn’t have to be a perfect match. Colors can be complementary as well as opposing to make a fun combination. If you’re not sure if it pairs well together, snap a picture and send it to me. I would love to see your styling ideas.
